Wonderful day spent with these gems. Exploring Islands of the Imagination through thinking about and listening to our local ecology around our Highland Homes. Creating and bringing GIANT maps of ourselves to life through dance, soundscapes and drawing. A wild day, with a dry sunshiney outdoor spell!

Many thanks to the fantastic European Dance Development Network. Such an insightful and joyful gathering of like minded bodies from across Europe. In what felt like a rare (amidst the drama of the UK’s political bereavement) opportunity to meet peers from abroad to hear and be witness to the rich research, cross border collaborations and dialogues taking place internationally.
Throughout the two days (9-10 February 2023) participants explored, through discussion and practice, what it means to be on the periphery; geographically, culturally and socially through the lens of creative, community and curatorial dance practices.
Artists, programmers, curators and cultural policy makers were invited to join us in exchanging knowledge and models of practice; asking how the periphery can become the centre; how this could inform creative dialogue with communities and artists, and how we can produce and present work that is rooted locally and connected internationally.
Blown away to be on the front of our local paper! That was an epic week!! Was so glad to see the hard graft that went into launching CALA paying off. I feel really lucky to have such an amazing creative team. CALA’s initial research and development has been generously supported through Creative Scotland and the Touring Networks Seedfund.
Locally we received support from the Highland Council harbour masters, Skye Sailing Club, RNLI, KJ MacDonald Plant Hire and LAS - not forgetting HAKI Access for the loan of the scaffolding down in Perthshire. Yas! Stoked.

It was really inspiring to sit down and have a chat with Emma from The Selkie Collective. A local eco / no waste shop in Broadford, south Skye. I find more and more that taking the time to discuss ones ideas and inspiration for doing and being in the world often turn from nerve wracking into a supportive connection. Recording this podcast was an important turning point for me, getting my voice and dance out there can feel quite scary at times.

Was a joy to spend a week training under the expertise of Lindsay Butcher, Lee Claydon, Roel Seeber and Magalie Lanriot at the Attenborough Arts Centre. Learning to trust my harness and fly freely with confidence! Aieee whoop!

An amazing time had with dancers again after a two year hiatus! How I’ve missed them. Was truly wonderful to be flying alongside this creative and colourful bunch in this gorgeous custom made space! Lots learnt and connections made.
